Established as Lack- und Firnisfabrik Engelhardt almost 160 years ago, Coates Screen Inks GmbH in Nuremberg has now been one of the global leaders in the development and production of screen and pad printing ink for almost 60 years.
The products became known under the former company name WIEDERHOLD.
1861 Foundation of the varnish factory Engelhardt in Nuremberg, located at the Stadtpark
1922 Engelhardt is acquired by WIEDERHOLD Hilden
1965 Begins development and production of screen printing inks
1970 Begins development and production of pad printing inks
1975 ICI, a former British chemical company with headquarters in London, acquires WIEDERHOLD
1989 The printing ink group Coates Brothers PLC (then part of the Total Group) acquires the WIEDERHOLD screen printing division from ICI.
Start of the planning phase of the new factory.
1995 New company name: Coates Screen Inks GmbH
1997 Relocation to the new factory in the Nuremberg-Eibach industrial zone
2000 Sun Chemical Corporation acquires the Coates Group from the French mineral oil company TOTAL.
